Through the course of multiple adjustment sessions Ramsay Orthodontics’s orthodontic team will use your braces to realign your teeth. Cleaning your braces twice each day, and maintaining them through minor lifestyle changes, it will minimize any potential complications. If you develop tooth decay in a critical area, or some part of your braces is damaged, it could significantly increase the amount of time you need to wear them.
We strongly encourage you to maintain a diligent daily oral hygiene routine of brushing and flossing twice a day. This includes cleaning away residual food particles and plaque from around the braces hardware. Interdental brushes or a floss threader with wax coated floss, can help you clean around some of the hard to reach places in your mouth.
If possible you should try to avoid eating sticky foods and chewing gum and eating sticky foods. This can easily bend wires, loosen brackets or dislodge spacers. At the same time, your braces can also be damaged by chewing hard and crunchy foods.
If any part of your braces hardware is damaged and threatening to injure your mouth, you can secure it in the special orthodontic wax you were given when we first installed them. This will help to protect your cheek and gums long enough for orthodontic team to assess and repair the problem.
