Easter is a great holiday filled with yummy treats, Easter egg hunts and family time. If you’re like our orthodontic team, you want the best Easter possible. Unfortunately, if you’re not careful, you can experience problems with your orthodontic aligners. This can put a damper on the holiday. So, our orthodontist, Dr. Stephan Ramsay, encourages you to keep your aligner and smile in mind while you celebrate the holiday. To help you have a good Easter with aligners, he encourages you to do the following things:
-Take your aligner out before eating: This is encouraged because eating with the aligner in the mouth can damage the appliance and make it unfit to align your smile. It can even scratch the aligner and make it more noticeable to those around you. You don’t want that, do you? So, make sure to take the aligner out of the mouth before you eat anything.
-Clean your smile regularly: Brushing and flossing your teeth after you eat or drink something can help you avoid dental issues. This is because it can remove the food particles and bacteria from your smile before you put the aligner back over the smile. If these substances get trapped under the aligner, then they can wear down and harm the tooth enamel.
-Wash your aligner: Washing your aligner can also help you avoid dental issues because it can remove plaque from the surface and help you prevent buildup. Plaque promotes tooth decay and gum disease. So, make sure to rinse your aligner each time you take it out of the mouth and thoroughly clean the aligner regularly.
